Quran 12:69

Surah Yusuf, Verse 69

وَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ ءَاوَىٰٓ إِلَيْهِ أَخَاهُ قَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا۠ أَخُوكَ فَلَا تَبْتَئِسْ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

Word by word

وَلَمَّا walammā And when دَخَلُوا۟ dakhalū they entered عَلَىٰ ʿalā upon يُوسُفَ yūsufa Yusuf ءَاوَىٰٓ āwā he took إِلَيْهِ ilayhi to himself أَخَاهُ ۖ akhāhu his brother قَالَ qāla He said إِنِّىٓ innī Indeed, I أَنَا۠ anā [I] am أَخُوكَ akhūka your brother فَلَا falā so (do) not تَبْتَئِسْ tabta-is grieve بِمَا bimā for what كَانُوا۟ kānū they used (to) يَعْمَلُونَ yaʿmalūna do

Transliteration

Walamma dakhaloo AAala yoosufaawa ilayhi akhahu qala innee anaakhooka fala tabta-is bima kanoo yaAAmaloon

Translations

And when they went in before Joseph, he took his brother unto him, saying: Lo! I, even I, am thy brother, therefore sorrow not for what they did.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Now when they came into Joseph's presence, he received his (full) brother to stay with him. He said (to him): "Behold! I am thy (own) brother; so grieve not at aught of their doings."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى عن إخوة يوسف لما قدموا على يوسف ومعهم أخوه شقيقه بنيامين ، فأدخلهم دار كرامته ومنزل ضيافته ، وأفاض عليهم الصلة والإلطاف والإحسان ، واختلى بأخيه فأطلعه على شأنه ، وما جرى له ، وعرفه أنه أخوه ، وقال له : " لا تبتئس " أي : لا تأسف على ما صنعوا بي ، وأمره بكتمان ذلك عنهم ، وألا يطلعهم على ما أطلعه عليه من أنه أخوه ، وتواطأ معه أنه سيحتال على أن يبقيه عنده ، معززا مكرما معظما .
