Quran 14:33

Surah Ibrahim, Verse 33

وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ دَآئِبَيْنِ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ

Word by word

وَسَخَّرَ wasakhara And He subjected لَكُمُ lakumu for you ٱلشَّمْسَ l-shamsa the sun وَٱلْقَمَرَ wal-qamara and the moon دَآئِبَيْنِ ۖ dāibayni both constantly pursuing their courses وَسَخَّرَ wasakhara and subjected لَكُمُ lakumu for you ٱلَّيْلَ al-layla the night وَٱلنَّهَارَ wal-nahāra and the day

Transliteration

Wasakhkhara lakumu ashshamsa walqamarada-ibayni wasakhkhara lakumu allayla wannahar

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And maketh the sun and the moon, constant in their courses, to be of service unto you, and hath made of service unto you the night and the day.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And He hath made subject to you the sun and the moon, both diligently pursuing their courses; and the night and the day hath he (also) made subject to you.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( وسخر لكم الشمس والقمر دائبين ) أي : يسيران لا يقران ليلا ولا نهارا ، ( لا الشمس ينبغي لها أن تدرك القمر ولا الليل سابق النهار وكل في فلك يسبحون ) [ يس : 40 ] ( يغشي الليل النهار يطلبه حثيثا والشمس والقمر والنجوم مسخرات بأمره ألا له الخلق والأمر تبارك الله رب العالمين ) [ الأعراف : 54 ] فالشمس والقمر يتعاقبان ، والليل والنهار عارضان فتارة يأخذ هذا من هذا فيطول ، ثم يأخذ الآخر من هذا فيقصر ، ( يولج الليل في النهار ويولج النهار في الليل وسخر الشمس والقمر كل يجري إلى أجل مسمى وأن الله بما تعملون خبير ) [ لقمان : 29 ] وقال تعالى : ( يكور الليل على النهار ويكور النهار على الليل وسخر الشمس والقمر كل يجري لأجل مسمى ) [ الزمر : 5 ] .
