Quran 14:42

Surah Ibrahim, Verse 42

وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَٰفِلًا عَمَّا يَعْمَلُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ إِنَّمَا يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ تَشْخَصُ فِيهِ ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ

Word by word

وَلَا walā And (do) not تَحْسَبَنَّ taḥsabanna think ٱللَّهَ l-laha (that) Allah غَـٰفِلًا ghāfilan (is) unaware عَمَّا ʿammā of what يَعْمَلُ yaʿmalu do ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۚ l-ẓālimūna the wrongdoers إِنَّمَا innamā Only يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ yu-akhiruhum He gives them respite لِيَوْمٍۢ liyawmin to a Day تَشْخَصُ tashkhaṣu will stare فِيهِ fīhi in it ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ l-abṣāru the eyes

Transliteration

Wala tahsabanna Allahaghafilan AAamma yaAAmalu aththalimoonainnama yu-akhkhiruhum liyawmin tashkhasu feehial-absar

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Deem not that Allah is unaware of what the wicked do. He but giveth them a respite till a day when eyes will stare (in terror),

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Think not that Allah doth not heed the deeds of those who do wrong. He but giveth them respite against a Day when the eyes will fixedly stare in horror,-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول [ تعالى شأنه ] ( ولا تحسبن الله ) يا محمد ( غافلا عما يعمل الظالمون ) أي : لا تحسبه إذ أنظرهم وأجلهم أنه غافل عنهم مهمل لهم ، لا يعاقبهم على صنعهم بل هو يحصي ذلك عليهم ويعده عدا أي : ( إنما يؤخرهم ليوم تشخص فيه الأبصار ) أي : من شدة الأهوال يوم القيامة .
