Quran 16:107

Surah An-Nahl, Verse 107

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا عَلَى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

Word by word

ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That (is) بِأَنَّهُمُ bi-annahumu because ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ is'taḥabbū they preferred ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ l-ḥayata the life ٱلدُّنْيَا l-dun'yā (of) the world عَلَى ʿalā over ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ l-ākhirati the Hereafter وَأَنَّ wa-anna and that ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah لَا lā (does) not يَهْدِى yahdī guide ٱلْقَوْمَ l-qawma the people ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ l-kāfirīna the disbelievers

Transliteration

Thalika bi-annahumu istahabbooalhayata addunya AAala al-akhiratiwaanna Allaha la yahdee alqawma alkafireen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

That is because they have chosen the life of the world rather than the Hereafter, and because Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

This because they love the life of this world better than the Hereafter: and Allah will not guide those who reject Faith.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

لأنهم استحبوا الحياة الدنيا على الآخرة فأقدموا على ما أقدموا عليه من الردة لأجل الدنيا ولم يهد الله قلوبهم ويثبتهم على الدين الحق.
