Quran 18:7

Surah Al-Kahf, Verse 7

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا مَا عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ زِينَةً لَّهَا لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا

Word by word

إِنَّا innā Indeed, We جَعَلْنَا jaʿalnā We have made مَا mā what عَلَى ʿalā (is) on ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth زِينَةًۭ zīnatan adornment لَّهَا lahā for it لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ linabluwahum that We may test [them] أَيُّهُمْ ayyuhum which of them أَحْسَنُ aḥsanu (is) best عَمَلًۭا ʿamalan (in) deed

Transliteration

Inna jaAAalna ma AAalaal-ardi zeenatan laha linabluwahum ayyuhum ahsanuAAamala

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Lo! We have placed all that is on the earth as an ornament thereof that We may try them: which of them is best in conduct.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them - as to which of them are best in conduct.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم أخبر تعالى أنه جعل الدنيا دارا فانية مزينة بزينة زائلة . وإنما جعلها دار اختبار لا دار قرار ، فقال : ( إنا جعلنا ما على الأرض زينة لها لنبلوهم أيهم أحسن عملا ) .

قال قتادة ، عن أبي نضرة ، عن أبي سعيد ، عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال : " إن الدنيا خضرة حلوة وإن الله مستخلفكم فيها فناظر ماذا تعملون ، فاتقوا الدنيا ، واتقوا النساء ، فإن أول فتنة بني إسرائيل كانت في النساء "
