Quran 19:81
Surah Maryam, Verse 81

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لِّيَكُونُوا۟ لَهُمْ عِزًّا
Word by word
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ wa-ittakhadhū And they have taken مِن min besides Allah دُونِ dūni besides Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi besides Allah ءَالِهَةًۭ ālihatan gods لِّيَكُونُوا۟ liyakūnū that they may be لَهُمْ lahum for them عِزًّۭا ʿizzan an honor
Transliteration
Wattakhathoo min dooni Allahialihatan liyakoonoo lahum AAizza
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
And they have chosen (other) gods beside Allah that they may be a power for them.
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
And they have taken (for worship) gods other than Allah, to give them power and glory!
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
يخبر تعالى عن الكفار المشركين بربهم : أنهم اتخذوا من دونه آلهة ، لتكون تلك الآلهة ) عزا ) يعتزون بها ويستنصرونها .
