وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ وَلَدًا
Word by word
وَمَا wamā And not يَنۢبَغِى yanbaghī is appropriate لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ lilrraḥmāni for the Most Gracious أَن an that يَتَّخِذَ yattakhidha He should take وَلَدًا waladan a son
Transliteration
Wama yanbaghee lirrahmanian yattakhitha walada
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
When it is not meet for (the Majesty of) the Beneficent that He should choose a son.
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
For it is not consonant with the majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son.
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
وقوله : ( وما ينبغي للرحمن أن يتخذ ولدا ) أي : لا يصلح له ، ولا يليق به لجلاله وعظمته; لأنه لا كفء له من خلقه ; لأن جميع الخلائق عبيد له;
