Quran 21:16
Surah Al-Anbiyaa, Verse 16

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ
Word by word
وَمَا wamā And not خَلَقْنَا khalaqnā We created ٱلسَّمَآءَ l-samāa the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ wal-arḍa and the earth وَمَا wamā and what بَيْنَهُمَا baynahumā (is) between them لَـٰعِبِينَ lāʿibīna (for) playing
Transliteration
Wama khalaqna assamaawal-arda wama baynahuma laAAibeen
Translations
Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall
We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in play.
Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Not for (idle) sport did We create the heavens and the earth and all that is between!
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
يخبر تعالى أنه خلق السماوات والأرض بالحق ، أي : بالعدل والقسط ، ( ليجزي الذين أساءوا بما عملوا ويجزي الذين أحسنوا بالحسنى ) [ النجم : 31 ] ، وأنه لم يخلق ذلك عبثا ولا لعبا ، كما قال : ( وما خلقنا السماء والأرض وما بينهما باطلا ذلك ظن الذين كفروا فويل للذين كفروا من النار )
