Quran 23:62

Surah Al-Muminoon, Verse 62

وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَٰبٌ يَنطِقُ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

Word by word

وَلَا walā And not نُكَلِّفُ nukallifu We burden نَفْسًا nafsan any soul إِلَّا illā except وُسْعَهَا ۖ wus'ʿahā (to) its capacity وَلَدَيْنَا waladaynā and with Us كِتَـٰبٌۭ kitābun (is) a Record يَنطِقُ yanṭiqu (which) speaks بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ bil-ḥaqi with the truth وَهُمْ wahum and they لَا lā (will) not يُظْلَمُونَ yuẓ'lamūna be wronged

Transliteration

Wala nukallifu nafsan illawusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bilhaqqiwahum la yuthlamoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And we task not any soul beyond its scope, and with Us is a Record which speaketh the truth, and they will not be wronged.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا عن عدله في شرعه على عباده في الدنيا : أنه لا يكلف نفسا إلا وسعها ، أي : إلا ما تطيق حمله والقيام به ، وأنه يوم القيامة يحاسبهم بأعمالهم التي كتبها عليهم في كتاب مسطور لا يضيع منه شيء; ولهذا قال : ( ولدينا كتاب ينطق بالحق ) يعني : كتاب الأعمال ، ( وهم لا يظلمون ) أي : لا يبخسون من الخير شيئا ، وأما السيئات فيعفو ويصفح عن كثير منها لعباده المؤمنين .
