Quran 27:17

Surah An-Naml, Verse 17

وَحُشِرَ لِسُلَيْمَٰنَ جُنُودُهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ وَٱلطَّيْرِ فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ

Word by word

وَحُشِرَ waḥushira And were gathered لِسُلَيْمَـٰنَ lisulaymāna for Sulaiman جُنُودُهُۥ junūduhu his hosts مِنَ mina of ٱلْجِنِّ l-jini jinn وَٱلْإِنسِ wal-insi and the men وَٱلطَّيْرِ wal-ṭayri and the birds فَهُمْ fahum and they يُوزَعُونَ yūzaʿūna (were) set in rows

Transliteration

Wahushira lisulaymanajunooduhu mina aljinni wal-insi wattayrifahum yoozaAAoon

Translations

And there were gathered together unto Solomon his armies of the jinn and humankind, and of the birds, and they were set in battle order;

And before Solomon were marshalled his hosts,- of Jinns and men and birds, and they were all kept in order and ranks.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله تعالى : ( وحشر لسليمان جنوده من الجن والإنس والطير فهم يوزعون ) أي : وجمع لسليمان جنوده من الجن والإنس والطير يعني : ركب فيهم في أبهة وعظمة كبيرة في الإنس ، وكانوا هم الذين يلونه ، والجن وهم بعدهم [ يكونون ] في المنزلة ، والطير ومنزلتها فوق رأسه ، فإن كان حر أظلته منه بأجنحتها .

وقوله : ( فهم يوزعون ) أي : يكف أولهم على آخرهم ; لئلا يتقدم أحد عن منزلته التي هي مرتبة له .

قال مجاهد : جعل على كل صنف وزعة ، يردون أولاها على أخراها ، لئلا يتقدموا في المسير ، كما يفعل الملوك اليوم .
