Quran 27:22

Surah An-Naml, Verse 22

فَمَكَثَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ فَقَالَ أَحَطتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِۦ وَجِئْتُكَ مِن سَبَإٍۭ بِنَبَإٍ يَقِينٍ

Word by word

فَمَكَثَ famakatha So he stayed غَيْرَ ghayra not بَعِيدٍۢ baʿīdin long فَقَالَ faqāla and he said أَحَطتُ aḥaṭtu I have encompassed بِمَا bimā that which لَمْ lam not تُحِطْ tuḥiṭ you have encompassed بِهِۦ bihi it وَجِئْتُكَ waji'tuka and I have come to you مِن min from سَبَإٍۭ saba-in Saba بِنَبَإٍۢ binaba-in with news يَقِينٍ yaqīnin certain

Transliteration

Famakatha ghayra baAAeedin faqala ahattubima lam tuhit bihi waji/tuka min saba-inbinaba-in yaqeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

But he was not long in coming, and he said: I have found out (a thing) that thou apprehendest not, and I come unto thee from Sheba with sure tidings.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

But the Hoopoe tarried not far: he (came up and) said: "I have compassed (territory) which thou hast not compassed, and I have come to thee from Saba with tidings true.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : ( فمكث ) الهدهد ( غير بعيد ) أي : غاب زمانا يسيرا ، ثم جاء فقال لسليمان : ( أحطت بما لم تحط به ) أي : اطلعت على ما لم تطلع عليه أنت ولا جنودك ، ( وجئتك من سبإ بنبإ يقين ) أي : بخبر صدق حق يقين .

وسبأ : هم : حمير ، وهم ملوك اليمن .
