Quran 27:45

Surah An-Naml, Verse 45

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَٰلِحًا أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَإِذَا هُمْ فَرِيقَانِ يَخْتَصِمُونَ

Word by word

وَلَقَدْ walaqad And certainly أَرْسَلْنَآ arsalnā We sent إِلَىٰ ilā to ثَمُودَ thamūda Thamud أَخَاهُمْ akhāhum their brother صَـٰلِحًا ṣāliḥan Salih أَنِ ani that ٱعْبُدُوا۟ uʿ'budū Worship ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah فَإِذَا fa-idhā Then behold هُمْ hum They فَرِيقَانِ farīqāni (became) two parties يَخْتَصِمُونَ yakhtaṣimūna quarreling

Transliteration

Walaqad arsalna ila thamoodaakhahum salihan ani oAAbudoo Allahafa-itha hum fareeqani yakhtasimoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And We verily sent unto Thamud their brother Salih, saying: Worship Allah. And lo! they (then became two parties quarrelling.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

We sent (aforetime), to the Thamud, their brother Salih, saying, "Serve Allah": But behold, they became two factions quarrelling with each other.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى عن ثمود وما كان من أمرها مع نبيها صالح ، عليه السلام ، حين بعثه الله إليهم ، فدعاهم إلى عبادة الله وحده لا شريك له ، ( فإذا هم فريقان يختصمون ) قال مجاهد : مؤمن وكافر - كقوله تعالى : ( قال الملأ الذين استكبروا من قومه للذين استضعفوا لمن آمن منهم أتعلمون أن صالحا مرسل من ربه قالوا إنا بما أرسل به مؤمنون قال الذين استكبروا إنا بالذي آمنتم به كافرون ) [ الأعراف : 75 ، 76 ] .
