Quran 28:42

Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 42

وَأَتْبَعْنَٰهُمْ فِى هَٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعْنَةً وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ هُم مِّنَ ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ

Word by word

وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ wa-atbaʿnāhum And We caused to follow them فِى fī in هَـٰذِهِ hādhihi this ٱلدُّنْيَا l-dun'yā world لَعْنَةًۭ ۖ laʿnatan a curse وَيَوْمَ wayawma and (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection هُم hum they مِّنَ mina (will be) of ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ l-maqbūḥīna the despised

Transliteration

WaatbaAAnahum fee hathihi addunyalaAAnatan wayawma alqiyamati hum mina almaqbooheen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And We made a curse to follow them in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be among the hateful.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

in this world We made a curse to follow them and on the Day of Judgment they will be among the loathed (and despised).

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( وأتبعناهم في هذه الدنيا لعنة ) أي : وشرع الله لعنتهم ولعنة ملكهم فرعون على ألسنة المؤمنين من عباده المتبعين رسله ، وكما أنهم في الدنيا ملعونون على ألسنة الأنبياء وأتباعهم كذلك ، ( ويوم القيامة هم من المقبوحين ) . قال قتادة : وهذه الآية كقوله تعالى : ( وأتبعوا في هذه لعنة ويوم القيامة بئس الرفد المرفود ) [ هود : 99 ] .
