Quran 28:50

Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 50

فَإِن لَّمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَكَ فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّمَا يَتَّبِعُونَ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ بِغَيْرِ هُدًى مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

Word by word

فَإِن fa-in But if لَّمْ lam not يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ yastajībū they respond لَكَ laka to you فَٱعْلَمْ fa-iʿ'lam then know أَنَّمَا annamā that only يَتَّبِعُونَ yattabiʿūna they follow أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ ahwāahum their desires وَمَنْ waman And who أَضَلُّ aḍallu (is) more astray مِمَّنِ mimmani than (one) who ٱتَّبَعَ ittabaʿa follows هَوَىٰهُ hawāhu his own desire بِغَيْرِ bighayri without هُدًۭى hudan guidance مِّنَ mina from ٱللَّهِ ۚ l-lahi Allah إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah لَا lā (does) not يَهْدِى yahdī guide ٱلْقَوْمَ l-qawma the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers

Transliteration

Fa-in lam yastajeeboo laka faAAlamannama yattabiAAoona ahwaahum waman adallumimmani ittabaAAa hawahu bighayri hudan mina Allahiinna Allaha la yahdee alqawma aththalimeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And if they answer thee not, then know that what they follow is their lusts. And who goeth farther astray than he who followeth his lust without guidance from Allah. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

But if they hearken not to thee, know that they only follow their own lusts: and who is more astray than one who follow his own lusts, devoid of guidance from Allah? for Allah guides not people given to wrong-doing.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى : ( فإن لم يستجيبوا لك ) أي : فإن لم يجيبوك عما قلت لهم ولم يتبعوا الحق ( فاعلم أنما يتبعون أهواءهم ) أي : بلا دليل ولا حجة ( ومن أضل ممن اتبع هواه بغير هدى من الله ) أي : بغير حجة مأخوذة من كتاب الله ، ( إن الله لا يهدي القوم الظالمين ) .
