Quran 28:63

Surah Al-Qasas, Verse 63

قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَوْلُ رَبَّنَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلَّذِينَ أَغْوَيْنَآ أَغْوَيْنَٰهُمْ كَمَا غَوَيْنَا تَبَرَّأْنَآ إِلَيْكَ مَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِيَّانَا يَعْبُدُونَ

Word by word

قَالَ qāla (Will) say ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those حَقَّ ḥaqqa (has) come true عَلَيْهِمُ ʿalayhimu against whom ٱلْقَوْلُ l-qawlu the Word رَبَّنَا rabbanā Our Lord هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ hāulāi These ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) those whom أَغْوَيْنَآ aghwaynā we led astray أَغْوَيْنَـٰهُمْ aghwaynāhum We led them astray كَمَا kamā as غَوَيْنَا ۖ ghawaynā we were astray تَبَرَّأْنَآ tabarranā We declare our innocence إِلَيْكَ ۖ ilayka before You مَا mā Not كَانُوٓا۟ kānū they used (to) إِيَّانَا iyyānā worship us يَعْبُدُونَ yaʿbudūna worship us

Transliteration

Qala allatheena haqqaAAalayhimu alqawlu rabbana haola-i allatheenaaghwayna aghwaynahum kama ghawaynatabarra/na ilayka ma kanoo iyyanayaAAbudoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Those concerning whom the Word will have come true will say: Our Lord! These are they whom we led astray. We led them astray even as we ourselves were astray. We declare our innocence before Thee: us they never worshipped.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Those against whom the charge will be proved, will say: "Our Lord! These are the ones whom we led astray: we led them astray, as we were astray ourselves: we free ourselves (from them) in Thy presence: it was not us they worshipped."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( قال الذين حق عليهم القول ) يعني : من الشياطين والمردة والدعاة إلى الكفر ، ( ربنا هؤلاء الذين أغوينا أغويناهم كما غوينا تبرأنا إليك ما كانوا إيانا يعبدون ) ، فشهدوا عليهم أنهم أغووهم فاتبعوهم ، ثم تبرءوا من عبادتهم ، كما قال تعالى : ( واتخذوا من دون الله آلهة ليكونوا لهم عزا . كلا سيكفرون بعبادتهم ويكونون عليهم ضدا ) [ مريم : 81 ، 82 ] ، وقال : ( ومن أضل ممن يدعو من دون الله من لا يستجيب له إلى يوم القيامة وهم عن دعائهم غافلون . وإذا حشر الناس كانوا لهم أعداء وكانوا بعبادتهم كافرين ) [ الأحقاف : 5 ، 6 ] ، وقال الخليل لقومه : ( إنما اتخذتم من دون الله أوثانا مودة بينكم في الحياة الدنيا ثم يوم القيامة يكفر بعضكم ببعض ويلعن بعضكم بعضا ومأواكم النار وما لكم من ناصرين ) [ العنكبوت : 25 ] ، وقال الله : ( إذ تبرأ الذين اتبعوا من الذين اتبعوا ورأوا العذاب وتقطعت بهم الأسباب وقال الذين اتبعوا لو أن لنا كرة فنتبرأ منهم كما تبرءوا منا كذلك يريهم الله أعمالهم حسرات عليهم وما هم بخارجين من النار ) [ البقرة : 166 ، 167 ] ، ولهذا قال :
