Quran 3:141
Surah Aal-i-Imraan, Verse 141

وَلِيُمَحِّصَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَيَمْحَقَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
Word by word
وَلِيُمَحِّصَ waliyumaḥḥiṣa And so that may purify ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ءَامَنُوا۟ āmanū believe وَيَمْحَقَ wayamḥaqa and destroy ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ l-kāfirīna the disbelievers
Transliteration
Waliyumahhisa Allahuallatheena amanoo wayamhaqa alkafireen
Translations

And that Allah may prove those who believe, and may blight the disbelievers.

Allah's object also is to purge those that are true in Faith and to deprive of blessing Those that resist Faith.
تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir
أي : يكفر عنهم من ذنوبهم ، إن كان لهم ذنوب وإلا رفع لهم في درجاتهم بحسب ما أصيبوا به ، وقوله : ( ويمحق الكافرين ) أي : فإنهم إذا ظفروا بغوا وبطروا فيكون ذلك سبب دمارهم وهلاكهم ومحقهم وفنائهم .
