Quran 3:157

Surah Aal-i-Imraan, Verse 157

وَلَئِن قُتِلْتُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ مُتُّمْ لَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَحْمَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ

Word by word

وَلَئِن wala-in And if قُتِلْتُمْ qutil'tum you are killed فِى fī in سَبِيلِ sabīli (the) way ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah أَوْ aw or مُتُّمْ muttum die[d] لَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ lamaghfiratun certainly forgiveness مِّنَ mina from ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah وَرَحْمَةٌ waraḥmatun and Mercy خَيْرٌۭ khayrun (are) better مِّمَّا mimmā than what يَجْمَعُونَ yajmaʿūna they accumulate

Transliteration

Wala-in qutiltum fee sabeeli Allahiaw muttum lamaghfiratun mina Allahi warahmatunkhayrun mimma yajmaAAoon

Translations

And what though ye be slain in Allah's way or die therein? Surely pardon from Allah and mercy are better than all that they amass.

And if ye are slain, or die, in the way of Allah, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all they could amass.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( ولئن قتلتم في سبيل الله أو متم لمغفرة من الله ورحمة خير مما يجمعون ) تضمن هذا أن القتل في سبيل الله ، والموت أيضا ، وسيلة إلى نيل رحمة الله وعفوه ورضوانه ، وذلك خير من البقاء في الدنيا وجمع حطامها الفاني .
