Quran 3:162

Surah Aal-i-Imraan, Verse 162

أَفَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ رِضْوَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ كَمَنۢ بَآءَ بِسَخَطٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَأْوَىٰهُ جَهَنَّمُ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

Word by word

أَفَمَنِ afamani So is (the one) who ٱتَّبَعَ ittabaʿa pursues رِضْوَٰنَ riḍ'wāna (the) pleasure ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah كَمَنۢ kaman like (the one) who بَآءَ bāa draws بِسَخَطٍۢ bisakhaṭin on (himself) wrath مِّنَ mina of ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah وَمَأْوَىٰهُ wamawāhu and his abode جَهَنَّمُ ۚ jahannamu (is) hell وَبِئْسَ wabi'sa and wretched ٱلْمَصِيرُ l-maṣīru (is) the destination

Transliteration

Afamani ittabaAAa ridwana Allahikaman baa bisakhatin mina Allahi wama/wahujahannamu wabi/sa almaseer

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Is one who followeth the pleasure of Allah as one who hath earned condemnation from Allah, whose habitation is the Fire, a hapless journey's end?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Is the man who follows the good pleasure of Allah Like the man who draws on himself the wrath of Allah, and whose abode is in Hell?- A woeful refuge!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( أفمن اتبع رضوان الله كمن باء بسخط من الله ومأواه جهنم وبئس المصير ) أي : لا يستوي من اتبع رضوان الله فيما شرعه ، فاستحق رضوان الله وجزيل ثوابه وأجير من وبيل عقابه ، ومن استحق غضب الله وألزم به ، فلا محيد له عنه ، ومأواه يوم القيامة جهنم وبئس المصير .

وهذه لها نظائر في القرآن كثيرة كقوله تعالى : ( أفمن يعلم أنما أنزل إليك من ربك الحق كمن هو أعمى ) [ الرعد : 19 ] وكقوله ( أفمن وعدناه وعدا حسنا فهو لاقيه كمن متعناه متاع الحياة الدنيا [ ثم هو يوم القيامة من المحضرين ] ) [ القصص : 61 ] .
