Quran 3:45

Surah Aal-i-Imraan, Verse 45

إِذْ قَالَتِ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يَٰمَرْيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنْهُ ٱسْمُهُ ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ وَجِيهًا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

Word by word

إِذْ idh When قَالَتِ qālati said ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ l-malāikatu the Angels يَـٰمَرْيَمُ yāmaryamu O Maryam إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah يُبَشِّرُكِ yubashiruki gives you glad tidings بِكَلِمَةٍۢ bikalimatin of a word مِّنْهُ min'hu from Him ٱسْمُهُ us'muhu his name ٱلْمَسِيحُ l-masīḥu (is) the Messiah عِيسَى ʿīsā Isa ٱبْنُ ub'nu son مَرْيَمَ maryama (of) Maryam وَجِيهًۭا wajīhan honored فِى fī in ٱلدُّنْيَا l-dun'yā the world وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ wal-ākhirati and (in) the Hereafter وَمِنَ wamina and of ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ l-muqarabīna those brought near (to Allah)

Transliteration

Ith qalati almala-ikatuya maryamu inna Allaha yubashshiruki bikalimatinminhu ismuhu almaseehu AAeesa ibnu maryama wajeehanfee addunya wal-akhirati waminaalmuqarrabeen

(And remember) when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in the world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (unto Allah).

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah;

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

هذه بشارة من الملائكة لمريم ، عليها السلام ، بأن سيوجد منها ولد عظيم ، له شأن كبير . قال الله تعالى : ( إذ قالت الملائكة يا مريم إن الله يبشرك بكلمة منه ) أي : بولد يكون وجوده بكلمة من الله ، أي : بقوله له : " كن " فيكون ، وهذا تفسير قوله : ( مصدقا بكلمة من الله ) [ آل عمران : 39 ] كما ذكره الجمهور على ما سبق بيانه ( اسمه المسيح عيسى ابن مريم ) أي يكون مشهورا بهذا في الدنيا ، يعرفه المؤمنون بذلك .

وسمي المسيح ، قال بعض السلف : لكثرة سياحته . وقيل : لأنه كان مسيح القدمين : [ أي ] لا أخمص لهما . وقيل : لأنه [ كان ] إذا مسح أحدا من ذوي العاهات برئ بإذن الله تعالى .

وقوله : ( عيسى ابن مريم ) نسبة له إلى أمه ، حيث لا أب له ( وجيها في الدنيا والآخرة ومن المقربين ) أي : له وجاهة ومكانة عند الله في الدنيا ، بما يوحيه الله إليه من الشريعة ، وينزل عليه من الكتاب ، وغير ذلك مما منحه به ، وفي الدار الآخرة يشفع عند الله فيمن يأذن له فيه ، فيقبل منه ، أسوة بإخوانه من أولي العزم ، صلوات الله عليهم .
