Quran 30:24

Surah Ar-Room, Verse 24

وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ يُرِيكُمُ ٱلْبَرْقَ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَيُحْىِۦ بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَآ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ

Word by word

وَمِنْ wamin And among ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ āyātihi His Signs يُرِيكُمُ yurīkumu He shows you ٱلْبَرْقَ l-barqa the lightning خَوْفًۭا khawfan (causing) fear وَطَمَعًۭا waṭamaʿan and hope وَيُنَزِّلُ wayunazzilu and He sends down مِنَ mina from ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the sky مَآءًۭ māan water فَيُحْىِۦ fayuḥ'yī and gives life بِهِ bihi therewith ٱلْأَرْضَ l-arḍa (to) the earth بَعْدَ baʿda after مَوْتِهَآ ۚ mawtihā its death إِنَّ inna Indeed فِى fī in ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ laāyātin surely (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ liqawmin for a people يَعْقِلُونَ yaʿqilūna who use intellect

Transliteration

Wamin ayatihi yureekumualbarqa khawfan watamaAAan wayunazzilu mina assama-imaan fayuhyee bihi al-arda baAAda mawtihainna fee thalika laayatin liqawminyaAAqiloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And of His signs is this: He showeth you the lightning for a fear and for a hope, and sendeth down water from the sky, and thereby quickeneth the earth after her death. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who understand.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And among His Signs, He shows you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope, and He sends down rain from the sky and with it gives life to the earth after it is dead: verily in that are Signs for those who are wise.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : ( ومن آياته ) الدالة على عظمته أنه ( يريكم البرق [ خوفا وطمعا ] ) أي : تارة تخافون مما يحدث بعده من أمطار مزعجة ، أو صواعق متلفة ، وتارة ترجون وميضه وما يأتي بعده من المطر المحتاج إليه; ولهذا قال : ( خوفا وطمعا ) أي : بعدما كانت هامدة لا نبات فيها ولا شيء ، فلما جاءها الماء ( اهتزت وربت وأنبتت من كل زوج بهيج ) [ الحج : 5 ] . وفي ذلك عبرة ودلالة واضحة على المعاد وقيام الساعة; ولهذا قال : ( إن في ذلك لآيات لقوم يعقلون ) .
