Quran 30:33

Surah Ar-Room, Verse 33

وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلنَّاسَ ضُرٌّ دَعَوْا۟ رَبَّهُم مُّنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ إِذَآ أَذَاقَهُم مِّنْهُ رَحْمَةً إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُونَ

Word by word

وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when مَسَّ massa touches ٱلنَّاسَ l-nāsa people ضُرٌّۭ ḍurrun hardship دَعَوْا۟ daʿaw they call رَبَّهُم rabbahum their Lord مُّنِيبِينَ munībīna turning إِلَيْهِ ilayhi to Him ثُمَّ thumma Then إِذَآ idhā when أَذَاقَهُم adhāqahum He causes them to taste مِّنْهُ min'hu from Him رَحْمَةً raḥmatan Mercy إِذَا idhā behold فَرِيقٌۭ farīqun A party مِّنْهُم min'hum of them بِرَبِّهِمْ birabbihim with their Lord يُشْرِكُونَ yush'rikūna associate partners

Transliteration

Wa-itha massa annasa durrundaAAaw rabbahum muneebeena ilayhi thumma itha athaqahumminhu rahmatan itha fareequn minhum birabbihimyushrikoon

And when harm toucheth men they cry unto their Lord, turning to Him in repentance; then, when they have tasted of His mercy, behold! some of them attribute partners to their Lord

When trouble touches men, they cry to their Lord, turning back to Him in repentance: but when He gives them a taste of Mercy as from Himself, behold, some of them pay part-worship to other god's besides their Lord,-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا عن الناس إنهم في حال الاضطرار يدعون الله وحده لا شريك له ، وأنه إذا أسبغ عليهم النعم ، إذا فريق منهم [ أي ] في حالة الاختبار يشركون بالله ، ويعبدون معه غيره .
