Quran 30:42

Surah Ar-Room, Verse 42

قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلُ كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّشْرِكِينَ

Word by word

قُلْ qul Say سِيرُوا۟ sīrū Travel فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth فَٱنظُرُوا۟ fa-unẓurū and see كَيْفَ kayfa how كَانَ kāna was عَـٰقِبَةُ ʿāqibatu (the) end ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who مِن min (were) before قَبْلُ ۚ qablu (were) before كَانَ kāna Most of them were أَكْثَرُهُم aktharuhum Most of them were مُّشْرِكِينَ mush'rikīna polytheists

Transliteration

Qul seeroo fee al-ardi fanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablu kanaaktharuhum mushrikeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Say (O Muhammad, to the disbelievers): Travel in the land, and see the nature of the consequence for those who were before you! Most of them were idolaters.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Say: "Travel through the earth and see what was the end of those before (you): Most of them worshipped others besides Allah."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال تعالى : ( قل سيروا في الأرض فانظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين من قبل ) أي : من قبلكم ، ( كان أكثرهم مشركين ) أي : فانظروا ماذا حل بهم من تكذيب الرسل وكفر النعم .
