Quran 30:57

Surah Ar-Room, Verse 57

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يَنفَعُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ

Word by word

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ fayawma-idhin So that Day لَّا lā not يَنفَعُ yanfaʿu will profit ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who ظَلَمُوا۟ ẓalamū wronged مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ maʿdhiratuhum their excuses وَلَا walā and not هُمْ hum they يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ yus'taʿtabūna will be allowed to make amends

Transliteration

Fayawma-ithin la yanfaAAu allatheenathalamoo maAAthiratuhum wala humyustaAAtaboon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

In that day their excuses will not profit those who did injustice, nor will they be allowed to make amends.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

So on that Day no excuse of theirs will avail the transgressors, nor will they be invited (then) to seek grace (by repentance).

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى : ( فيومئذ ) أي : يوم القيامة ، ( لا ينفع الذين ظلموا معذرتهم ) أي : [ لا ينفعهم ] اعتذارهم عما فعلوا ، ( ولا هم يستعتبون ) أي : ولا هم يرجعون إلى الدنيا ، كما قال تعالى : ( وإن يستعتبوا فما هم من المعتبين ) [ فصلت : 24 ] .
