Quran 31:10

Surah Luqman, Verse 10

خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا وَأَلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ

Word by word

خَلَقَ khalaqa He created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens بِغَيْرِ bighayri without عَمَدٍۢ ʿamadin pillars تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ tarawnahā that you see وَأَلْقَىٰ wa-alqā and has cast فِى fī in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth رَوَٰسِىَ rawāsiya firm mountains أَن an lest تَمِيدَ tamīda it (might) shake بِكُمْ bikum with you وَبَثَّ wabatha and He dispersed فِيهَا fīhā in it مِن min from كُلِّ kulli every دَآبَّةٍۢ ۚ dābbatin creature وَأَنزَلْنَا wa-anzalnā And We sent down مِنَ mina from ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the sky مَآءًۭ māan water فَأَنۢبَتْنَا fa-anbatnā then We caused to grow فِيهَا fīhā therein مِن min of كُلِّ kulli every زَوْجٍۢ zawjin kind كَرِيمٍ karīmin noble

Transliteration

Khalaqa assamawatibighayri AAamadin tarawnaha waalqa fee al-ardirawasiya an tameeda bikum wabaththa feeha min kullidabbatin waanzalna mina assama-i maanfaanbatna feeha min kulli zawjin kareem

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

He hath created the heavens without supports that ye can see, and hath cast into the earth firm hills, so that it quake not with you; and He hath dispersed therein all kinds of beasts. And We send down water from the sky and We cause (plants) of every goodly kind to grow therein.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

He created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يبين سبحانه بهذا قدرته العظيمة على خلق السماوات والأرض ، وما فيهما وما بينهما ، فقال : ( خلق السماوات بغير عمد ) ، قال الحسن وقتادة : ليس لها عمد مرئية ولا غير مرئية .

وقال ابن عباس ، وعكرمة ، ومجاهد : لها عمد لا ترونها . وقد تقدم تقرير هذه المسألة في أول سورة " الرعد " بما أغنى عن إعادته .

( وألقى في الأرض رواسي ) يعني : الجبال أرست الأرض وثقلتها لئلا تضطرب بأهلها على وجه الماء; ولهذا قال : ( أن تميد بكم وبث فيها من كل دابة ) أي : وذرأ فيها من أصناف الحيوانات مما لا يعلم عدد أشكالها وألوانها إلا الذي خلقها .

ولما قرر أنه الخالق نبه على أنه الرازق بقوله تعالى ( وأنزلنا من السماء ماء فأنبتنا فيها من كل زوج كريم ) أي : من كل زوج من النبات كريم ، أي : حسن المنظر .

وقال الشعبي : والناس - أيضا - من نبات الأرض ، فمن دخل الجنة فهو كريم ، ومن دخل النار فهو لئيم .
