Quran 31:20

Surah Luqman, Verse 20

أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَأَسْبَغَ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعَمَهُۥ ظَٰهِرَةً وَبَاطِنَةً وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُجَٰدِلُ فِى ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَلَا هُدًى وَلَا كِتَٰبٍ مُّنِيرٍ

Word by word

أَلَمْ alam Do not تَرَوْا۟ taraw you see أَنَّ anna that ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah سَخَّرَ sakhara has subjected لَكُم lakum to you مَّا mā whatever فِى fī (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَمَا wamā and whatever فِى fī (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth وَأَسْبَغَ wa-asbagha and amply bestowed عَلَيْكُمْ ʿalaykum upon you نِعَمَهُۥ niʿamahu His Bounties ظَـٰهِرَةًۭ ẓāhiratan apparent وَبَاطِنَةًۭ ۗ wabāṭinatan and hidden وَمِنَ wamina But of ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi the people مَن man (is he) who يُجَـٰدِلُ yujādilu disputes فِى fī about ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah بِغَيْرِ bighayri without عِلْمٍۢ ʿil'min knowledge وَلَا walā and not هُدًۭى hudan guidance وَلَا walā and not كِتَـٰبٍۢ kitābin a book مُّنِيرٍۢ munīrin enlightening

Transliteration

Alam taraw anna Allaha sakhkharalakum ma fee assamawati wamafee al-ardi waasbagha AAalaykum niAAamahu thahiratanwabatinatan wamina annasi man yujadilufee Allahi bighayri AAilmin wala hudan walakitabin muneer

See ye not how Allah hath made serviceable unto you whatsoever is in the skies and whatsoever is in the earth and hath loaded you with His favours both without and within? Yet of mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah, without knowledge or guidance or a scripture giving light.

Do ye not see that Allah has subjected to your (use) all things in the heavens and on earth, and has made his bounties flow to you in exceeding measure, (both) seen and unseen? Yet there are among men those who dispute about Allah, without knowledge and without guidance, and without a Book to enlighten them!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى منبها خلقه على نعمه عليهم في الدنيا والآخرة ، بأنه سخر لهم ما في السماوات من نجوم يستضيئون بها في ليلهم ونهارهم ، وما يخلق فيها من سحاب وأمطار وثلج وبرد ، وجعله إياها لهم سقفا محفوظا ، وما خلق لهم في الأرض من قرار وأنهار وأشجار وزروع وثمار . وأسبغ عليهم نعمه الظاهرة والباطنة من إرسال الرسل وإنزال الكتب ، وإزاحة الشبه والعلل ، ثم مع هذا كله ما آمن الناس كلهم ، بل منهم من يجادل في الله ، أي : في توحيده وإرسال الرسل . ومجادلته في ذلك بغير علم ، ولا مستند من حجة صحيحة ، ولا كتاب مأثور صحيح; ولهذا قال تعالى : ( ومن الناس من يجادل في الله بغير علم ولا هدى ولا كتاب منير ) أي : مبين مضيء .
