Quran 31:25

Surah Luqman, Verse 25

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ قُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Word by word

وَلَئِن wala-in And if سَأَلْتَهُم sa-altahum you ask them مَّنْ man Who خَلَقَ khalaqa created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ wal-arḍa and the earth لَيَقُولُنَّ layaqūlunna They will surely say ٱللَّهُ ۚ l-lahu Allah قُلِ quli Say ٱلْحَمْدُ l-ḥamdu All praises لِلَّهِ ۚ lillahi (are) for Allah بَلْ bal But أَكْثَرُهُمْ aktharuhum most of them لَا lā (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna know

Transliteration

Wala-in saaltahum man khalaqa assamawatiwal-arda layaqoolunna Allahu quli alhamdulillahi bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

If thou shouldst ask them: Who created the heavens and the earth? they would answer: Allah. Say: Praise be to Allah! But most of them know not.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

If thou ask them, who it is that created the heavens and the earth. They will certainly say, "Allah". Say: "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا عن هؤلاء المشركين به : إنهم يعرفون أن الله خالق السماوات والأرض ، وحده لا شريك له ، ومع هذا يعبدون معه شركاء يعترفون أنها خلق له وملك له; ولهذا قال : ( ولئن سألتهم من خلق السماوات والأرض ليقولن الله قل الحمد لله ) [ أي : إذ قامت عليكم الحجة باعترافكم ] ، ( بل أكثرهم لا يعلمون ) .
