Quran 31:31

Surah Luqman, Verse 31

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱلْفُلْكَ تَجْرِى فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ بِنِعْمَتِ ٱللَّهِ لِيُرِيَكُم مِّنْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦٓ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ

Word by word

أَلَمْ alam Do not تَرَ tara you see أَنَّ anna that ٱلْفُلْكَ l-ful'ka the ships تَجْرِى tajrī sail فِى fī through ٱلْبَحْرِ l-baḥri the sea بِنِعْمَتِ biniʿ'mati by (the) Grace ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah لِيُرِيَكُم liyuriyakum that He may show you مِّنْ min of ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ āyātihi His Signs إِنَّ inna Indeed فِى fī in ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ laāyātin surely (are) Signs لِّكُلِّ likulli for everyone صَبَّارٍۢ ṣabbārin (who is) patient شَكُورٍۢ shakūrin grateful

Transliteration

Alam tara anna alfulka tajree fee albahribiniAAmati Allahi liyuriyakum min ayatihiinna fee thalika laayatin likulli sabbarinshakoor

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Hast thou not seen how the ships glide on the sea by Allah's grace, that He may show you of His wonders? Lo! therein indeed are portents for every steadfast, grateful (heart).

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Seest thou not that the ships sail through the ocean by the Grace of Allah?- that He may show you of His Signs? Verily in this are Signs for all who constantly persevere and give thanks.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى أنه هو الذي سخر البحر لتجري فيه الفلك بأمره ، أي : بلطفه وتسخيره; فإنه لولا ما جعل في الماء من قوة يحمل بها السفن لما جرت ; ولهذا قال : ( ليريكم من آياته ) أي : من قدرته ، ( إن في ذلك لآيات لكل صبار شكور ) أي : صبار في الضراء ، شكور في الرخاء .
