Quran 33:18

Surah Al-Ahzaab, Verse 18

قَدْ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُعَوِّقِينَ مِنكُمْ وَٱلْقَآئِلِينَ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ هَلُمَّ إِلَيْنَا وَلَا يَأْتُونَ ٱلْبَأْسَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

Word by word

۞ قَدْ qad Verily يَعْلَمُ yaʿlamu Allah knows ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah knows ٱلْمُعَوِّقِينَ l-muʿawiqīna those who hinder مِنكُمْ minkum among you وَٱلْقَآئِلِينَ wal-qāilīna and those who say لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ li-ikh'wānihim to their brothers هَلُمَّ halumma Come إِلَيْنَا ۖ ilaynā to us وَلَا walā and not يَأْتُونَ yatūna they come ٱلْبَأْسَ l-basa (to) the battle إِلَّا illā except قَلِيلًا qalīlan a few

Transliteration

Qad yaAAlamu Allahu almuAAawwiqeenaminkum walqa-ileena li-ikhwanihim halummailayna wala ya/toona alba/sa illa qaleela

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Allah already knoweth those of you who hinder, and those who say unto their brethren: "Come ye hither unto us!" and they come not to the stress of battle save a little,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Verily Allah knows those among you who keep back (men) and those who say to their brethren, "Come along to us", but come not to the fight except for just a little while.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يخبر تعالى عن إحاطة علمه بالمعوقين لغيرهم عن شهود الحرب ، والقائلين لإخوانهم ، أي : أصحابهم وعشرائهم وخلطائهم ( هلم إلينا ) أي : إلى ما نحن فيه من الإقامة في الظلال والثمار ، وهم مع ذلك ( لا يأتون البأس إلا قليلا)
