Quran 33:60

Surah Al-Ahzaab, Verse 60

لَّئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْمُرْجِفُونَ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ لَنُغْرِيَنَّكَ بِهِمْ ثُمَّ لَا يُجَاوِرُونَكَ فِيهَآ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

Word by word

۞ لَّئِن la-in If لَّمْ lam (do) not يَنتَهِ yantahi cease ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ l-munāfiqūna the hypocrites وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna and those who فِى fī in قُلُوبِهِم qulūbihim their hearts مَّرَضٌۭ maraḍun (is) a disease وَٱلْمُرْجِفُونَ wal-mur'jifūna and those who spread rumors فِى fī in ٱلْمَدِينَةِ l-madīnati the city لَنُغْرِيَنَّكَ lanugh'riyannaka We will let you overpower them بِهِمْ bihim We will let you overpower them ثُمَّ thumma then لَا lā not يُجَاوِرُونَكَ yujāwirūnaka they will remain your neighbors فِيهَآ fīhā therein إِلَّا illā except قَلِيلًۭا qalīlan (for) a little

Transliteration

La-in lam yantahi almunafiqoona wallatheenafee quloobihim maradun walmurjifoona feealmadeenati lanughriyannaka bihim thumma la yujawiroonakafeeha illa qaleela

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and the alarmists in the city do not cease, We verily shall urge thee on against them, then they will be your neighbours in it but a little while.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Truly, if the Hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and those who stir up sedition in the City, desist not, We shall certainly stir thee up against them: Then will they not be able to stay in it as thy neighbours for any length of time:

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال تعالى متوعدا للمنافقين ، وهم الذين يظهرون الإيمان ويبطنون الكفر : ( والذين في قلوبهم مرض ) قال عكرمة وغيره : هم الزناة هاهنا ( والمرجفون في المدينة ) يعني : الذين يقولون : " جاء الأعداء " و " جاءت الحروب " ، وهو كذب وافتراء ، لئن لم ينتهوا عن ذلك ويرجعوا إلى الحق ( لنغرينك بهم ) قال علي بن أبي طلحة ، عن ابن عباس : أي : لنسلطنك عليهم . وقال قتادة ، رحمه الله : لنحرشنك بهم . وقال السدي : لنعلمنك بهم .

( ثم لا يجاورونك فيها ) أي : في المدينة ) إلا قليلا
