Quran 34:42

Surah Saba, Verse 42

فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا يَمْلِكُ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ نَّفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا وَنَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ

Word by word

فَٱلْيَوْمَ fal-yawma But today لَا lā not يَمْلِكُ yamliku possess power بَعْضُكُمْ baʿḍukum some of you لِبَعْضٍۢ libaʿḍin on others نَّفْعًۭا nafʿan to benefit وَلَا walā and not ضَرًّۭا ḍarran to harm وَنَقُولُ wanaqūlu and We will say لِلَّذِينَ lilladhīna to those ظَلَمُوا۟ ẓalamū who wronged ذُوقُوا۟ dhūqū Taste عَذَابَ ʿadhāba (the) punishment ٱلنَّارِ l-nāri (of) the Fire ٱلَّتِى allatī which كُنتُم kuntum you used بِهَا bihā to [it] تُكَذِّبُونَ tukadhibūna deny

Transliteration

Falyawma la yamliku baAAdukumlibaAAdin nafAAan wala darran wanaqoolulillatheena thalamoo thooqoo AAathabaannari allatee kuntum biha tukaththiboon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

That day ye will possess no use nor hurt one for another. And We shall say unto those who did wrong: Taste the doom of the Fire which ye used to deny.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

So on that Day no power shall they have over each other, for profit or harm: and We shall say to the wrong-doers, "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire,- the which ye were wont to deny!"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى : ( فاليوم لا يملك بعضكم لبعض نفعا ولا ضرا ) أي : لا يقع لكم نفع ممن كنتم ترجون نفعه اليوم من الأنداد والأوثان ، التي ادخرتم عبادتها لشدائدكم وكربكم ، اليوم لا يملكون لكم نفعا ولا ضرا ، ( ونقول للذين ظلموا ) - وهم المشركون - ( ذوقوا عذاب النار التي كنتم بها تكذبون ) أي : يقال لهم ذلك ، تقريعا وتوبيخا .
