Quran 34:45

Surah Saba, Verse 45

وَكَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ وَمَا بَلَغُوا۟ مِعْشَارَ مَآ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ رُسُلِى فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ

Word by word

وَكَذَّبَ wakadhaba And denied ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who مِن min (were) before them قَبْلِهِمْ qablihim (were) before them وَمَا wamā and not بَلَغُوا۟ balaghū they have attained مِعْشَارَ miʿ'shāra a tenth مَآ mā (of) what ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ātaynāhum We (had) given them فَكَذَّبُوا۟ fakadhabū But they denied رُسُلِى ۖ rusulī My Messengers فَكَيْفَ fakayfa so how كَانَ kāna was نَكِيرِ nakīri My rejection

Transliteration

Wakaththaba allatheena minqablihim wama balaghoo miAAshara ma ataynahumfakaththaboo rusulee fakayfa kana nakeer

Translations

Those before them denied, and these have not attained a tithe of that which We bestowed on them (of old); yet they denied My messengers. How intense then was My abhorrence (of them)!

And their predecessors rejected (the Truth); these have not received a tenth of what We had granted to those: yet when they rejected My messengers, how (terrible) was My rejection (of them)!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال : ( وكذب الذين من قبلهم ) أي : من الأمم ، ( وما بلغوا معشار ما آتيناهم ) قال ابن عباس : أي من القوة في الدنيا . وكذلك قال قتادة ، والسدي ، وابن زيد . كما قال تعالى : ( ولقد مكناهم فيما إن مكناكم فيه وجعلنا لهم سمعا وأبصارا وأفئدة فما أغنى عنهم سمعهم ولا أبصارهم ولا أفئدتهم من شيء إذ كانوا يجحدون بآيات الله وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزئون ) [ الأحقاف : 26 ] ، ( أفلم يسيروا في الأرض فينظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين من قبلهم كانوا أكثر منهم وأشد قوة ) [ غافر : 82 ] ، أي : وما دفع ذلك عنهم عذاب الله ولا رده ، بل دمر الله عليهم لما كذبوا رسله; ولهذا قال : ( فكذبوا رسلي فكيف كان نكير ) أي : فكيف كان نكالي وعقابي وانتصاري لرسلي ؟
