Quran 36:14

Surah Yaseen, Verse 14

إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ

Word by word

إِذْ idh When أَرْسَلْنَآ arsalnā We sent إِلَيْهِمُ ilayhimu to them ٱثْنَيْنِ ith'nayni two (Messengers) فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا fakadhabūhumā but they denied both of them فَعَزَّزْنَا faʿazzaznā so We strengthened them بِثَالِثٍۢ bithālithin with a third فَقَالُوٓا۟ faqālū and they said إِنَّآ innā Indeed, We إِلَيْكُم ilaykum to you مُّرْسَلُونَ mur'salūna (are) Messengers

Transliteration

Ith arsalna ilayhimu ithnaynifakaththaboohuma faAAazzazna bithalithinfaqaloo inna ilaykum mursaloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

When We sent unto them twain, and they denied them both, so We reinforced them with a third, and they said: Lo! we have been sent unto you.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

When We (first) sent to them two messengers, they rejected them: But We strengthened them with a third: they said, "Truly, we have been sent on a mission to you."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( إذ أرسلنا إليهم اثنين فكذبوهما ) أي : بادروهما بالتكذيب ، ( فعززنا بثالث ) أي : قويناهما وشددنا أزرهما برسول ثالث .

قال ابن جريج ، عن وهب بن سليمان ، عن شعيب الجبائي قال : كان اسم الرسولين الأولين شمعون ويوحنا ، واسم الثالث بولص ، والقرية أنطاكية .
