Quran 39:43

Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 43

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ شُفَعَآءَ قُلْ أَوَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Word by word

أَمِ ami Or ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ittakhadhū have they taken مِن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah شُفَعَآءَ ۚ shufaʿāa intercessors قُلْ qul Say أَوَلَوْ awalaw Even though كَانُوا۟ kānū they were لَا lā not يَمْلِكُونَ yamlikūna possessing شَيْـًۭٔا shayan anything وَلَا walā and not يَعْقِلُونَ yaʿqilūna they understand

Transliteration

Ami ittakhathoo min dooni AllahishufaAAaa qul awa law kanoo la yamlikoonashay-an wala yaAAqiloon

Translations

Or choose they intercessors other than Allah? Say: What! Even though they have power over nothing and have no intelligence?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

What! Do they take for intercessors others besides Allah? Say: "Even if they have no power whatever and no intelligence?"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى ذاما للمشركين في اتخاذهم شفعاء من دون الله ، وهم الأصنام والأنداد ، التي اتخذوها من تلقاء أنفسهم بلا دليل ولا برهان حداهم على ذلك ، وهي لا تملك شيئا من الأمر ، بل وليس لها عقل تعقل به ، ولا سمع تسمع به ، ولا بصر تبصر به ، بل هي جمادات أسوأ حالا من الحيوان بكثير .
