Quran 39:54

Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 54

وَأَنِيبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَسْلِمُوا۟ لَهُۥ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَكُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ

Word by word

وَأَنِيبُوٓا۟ wa-anībū And turn إِلَىٰ ilā to رَبِّكُمْ rabbikum your Lord وَأَسْلِمُوا۟ wa-aslimū and submit لَهُۥ lahu to Him مِن min before قَبْلِ qabli before أَن an [that] يَأْتِيَكُمُ yatiyakumu comes to you ٱلْعَذَابُ l-ʿadhābu the punishment ثُمَّ thumma then لَا lā not تُنصَرُونَ tunṣarūna you will be helped

Transliteration

Waaneeboo ila rabbikum waaslimoo lahumin qabli an ya/tiyakumu alAAathabu thumma la tunsaroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Turn unto your Lord repentant, and surrender unto Him, before there come unto you the doom, when ye cannot be helped.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"Turn ye to our Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that ye shall not be helped.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم استحث [ سبحانه ] وتعالى عباده إلى المسارعة إلى التوبة ، فقال : ( وأنيبوا إلى ربكم وأسلموا له ) أي : ارجعوا إلى الله واستسلموا له ، ( من قبل أن يأتيكم العذاب ثم لا تنصرون ) أي : بادروا بالتوبة والعمل الصالح قبل حلول النقمة ، .
