Quran 4:61

Surah An-Nisaa, Verse 61

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ رَأَيْتَ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَنكَ صُدُودًا

Word by word

وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when قِيلَ qīla it is said لَهُمْ lahum to them تَعَالَوْا۟ taʿālaw Come إِلَىٰ ilā to مَآ mā what أَنزَلَ anzala (has) revealed ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah وَإِلَى wa-ilā and to ٱلرَّسُولِ l-rasūli the Messenger رَأَيْتَ ra-ayta you see ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ l-munāfiqīna the hypocrites يَصُدُّونَ yaṣuddūna turning away عَنكَ ʿanka from you صُدُودًۭا ṣudūdan (in) aversion

Transliteration

Wa-itha qeela lahum taAAalawila ma anzala Allahu wa-ila arrasooliraayta almunafiqeena yasuddoona AAanka sudooda

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And when it is said unto them: Come unto that which Allah hath revealed and unto the messenger, thou seest the hypocrites turn from thee with aversion.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed, and to the Messenger": Thou seest the Hypocrites avert their faces from thee in disgust.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( يصدون عنك صدودا ) أي : يعرضون عنك إعراضا كالمستكبرين عن ذلك ، كما قال تعالى عن المشركين : ( وإذا قيل لهم اتبعوا ما أنزل الله قالوا بل نتبع ما وجدنا عليه آباءنا ) [ لقمان : 21 ] هؤلاء وهؤلاء بخلاف المؤمنين ، الذين قال الله فيهم : ( إنما كان قول المؤمنين إذا دعوا إلى الله ورسوله ليحكم بينهم أن يقولوا سمعنا [ وأطعنا وأولئك هم المفلحون ] ) [ النور : 51 ] .
