Quran 40:55

Surah Al-Ghaafir, Verse 55

فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِبْكَٰرِ

Word by word

فَٱصْبِرْ fa-iṣ'bir So be patient إِنَّ inna indeed وَعْدَ waʿda (the) Promise of Allah ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (the) Promise of Allah حَقٌّۭ ḥaqqun (is) true وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ wa-is'taghfir And ask forgiveness لِذَنۢبِكَ lidhanbika for your sin وَسَبِّحْ wasabbiḥ and glorify بِحَمْدِ biḥamdi (the) praise رَبِّكَ rabbika (of) your Lord بِٱلْعَشِىِّ bil-ʿashiyi in the evening وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ wal-ib'kāri and the morning

Transliteration

Fasbir inna waAAda Allahihaqqun wastaghfir lithanbika wasabbihbihamdi rabbika bilAAashiyyi wal-ibkar

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Then have patience (O Muhammad). Lo! the promise of Allah is true. And ask forgiveness of thy sin, and hymn the praise of thy Lord at fall of night and in the early hours.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Patiently, then, persevere: for the Promise of Allah is true: and ask forgiveness for thy fault, and celebrate the Praises of thy Lord in the evening and in the morning.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( فاصبر ) أي : يا محمد ، ( إن وعد الله ) أي : وعدناك أنا سنعلي كلمتك ، ونجعل العاقبة لك ولمن اتبعك ، والله لا يخلف الميعاد . وهذا الذي أخبرناك به حق لا مرية فيه ولا شك .

وقوله : ( واستغفر لذنبك ) هذا تهييج للأمة على الاستغفار ، ( وسبح بحمد ربك بالعشي ) أي : في أواخر النهار وأوائل الليل ، ( والإبكار ) وهي أوائل النهار وأواخر الليل .
