Quran 40:58

Surah Al-Ghaafir, Verse 58

وَمَا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْبَصِيرُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَلَا ٱلْمُسِىٓءُ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ

Word by word

وَمَا wamā And not يَسْتَوِى yastawī (are) equal ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ l-aʿmā the blind وَٱلْبَصِيرُ wal-baṣīru and the seeing وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna and those who ءَامَنُوا۟ āmanū believe وَعَمِلُوا۟ waʿamilū and do ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ l-ṣāliḥāti righteous deeds وَلَا walā and not ٱلْمُسِىٓءُ ۚ l-musīu the evildoer قَلِيلًۭا qalīlan Little مَّا mā (is) what تَتَذَكَّرُونَ tatadhakkarūna you take heed

Transliteration

Wama yastawee al-aAAma walbaseeruwallatheena amanoo waAAamiloo assalihatiwala almusee-o qaleelan ma tatathakkaroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And the blind man and the seer are not equal, neither are those who believe and do good works (equal with) the evil-doer. Little do ye reflect!

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Not equal are the blind and those who (clearly) see: Nor are (equal) those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and those who do evil. Little do ye learn by admonition!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال : ( وما يستوي الأعمى والبصير والذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات ولا المسيء ) أي كما لا يستوي الأعمى الذي لا يبصر شيئا ، والبصير الذي يرى ما انتهى إليه بصره ، بل بينهما فرق عظيم ، كذلك لا يستوي المؤمنون الأبرار والكفرة الفجار ، ( قليلا ما تتذكرون ) أي : ما أقل ما يتذكر كثير من الناس .
