Quran 40:66

Surah Al-Ghaafir, Verse 66

قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَمَّا جَآءَنِىَ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ مِن رَّبِّى وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

Word by word

۞ قُلْ qul Say إِنِّى innī Indeed, I نُهِيتُ nuhītu [I] have been forbidden أَنْ an to أَعْبُدَ aʿbuda worship ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those whom تَدْعُونَ tadʿūna you call مِن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah لَمَّا lammā when جَآءَنِىَ jāaniya have come to me ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ l-bayinātu the clear proofs مِن min from رَّبِّى rabbī my Lord وَأُمِرْتُ wa-umir'tu and I am commanded أَنْ an to أُسْلِمَ us'lima submit لِرَبِّ lirabbi to (the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ l-ʿālamīna (of) the worlds

Transliteration

Qul innee nuheetu an aAAbuda allatheenatadAAoona min dooni Allahi lamma jaaniyaalbayyinatu min rabbee waomirtu an oslima lirabbi alAAalameen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Say (O Muhammad): I am forbidden to worship those unto whom ye cry beside Allah since there have come unto me clear proofs from my Lord, and I am commanded to surrender to the Lord of the Worlds.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Say: "I have been forbidden to invoke those whom ye invoke besides Allah,- seeing that the Clear Signs have come to me from my Lord; and I have been commanded to bow (in Islam) to the Lord of the Worlds."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : قل يا محمد لهؤلاء المشركين : إن الله ينهى أن يعبد أحد سواه من الأصنام والأنداد والأوثان . وقد بين تعالى أنه لا يستحق العبادة أحد سواه ، في قوله :
