Quran 40:67

Surah Al-Ghaafir, Verse 67

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ عَلَقَةٍ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ أَشُدَّكُمْ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُوا۟ شُيُوخًا وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ مِن قَبْلُ وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ أَجَلًا مُّسَمًّى وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

Word by word

هُوَ huwa He ٱلَّذِى alladhī (is) the One Who خَلَقَكُم khalaqakum created you مِّن min from تُرَابٍۢ turābin dust ثُمَّ thumma then مِن min from نُّطْفَةٍۢ nuṭ'fatin a semen-drop ثُمَّ thumma then مِنْ min from عَلَقَةٍۢ ʿalaqatin a clinging substance ثُمَّ thumma then يُخْرِجُكُمْ yukh'rijukum He brings you out طِفْلًۭا ṭif'lan (as) a child ثُمَّ thumma then لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ litablughū lets you reach أَشُدَّكُمْ ashuddakum your maturity ثُمَّ thumma then لِتَكُونُوا۟ litakūnū lets you become شُيُوخًۭا ۚ shuyūkhan old وَمِنكُم waminkum and among you مَّن man (is he) who يُتَوَفَّىٰ yutawaffā dies مِن min before قَبْلُ ۖ qablu before وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ walitablughū and lets you reach أَجَلًۭا ajalan a term مُّسَمًّۭى musamman specified وَلَعَلَّكُمْ walaʿallakum and that you may تَعْقِلُونَ taʿqilūna use reason

Transliteration

Huwa allathee khalaqakum min turabinthumma min nutfatin thumma min AAalaqatin thummayukhrijukum tiflan thumma litablughoo ashuddakum thummalitakoonoo shuyookhan waminkum man yutawaffa min qabluwalitablughoo ajalan musamman walaAAallakum taAAqiloon

He it is Who created you from dust, then from a drop (of seed) then from a clot, then bringeth you forth as a child, then (ordaineth) that ye attain full strength and afterward that ye become old men - though some among you die before - and that ye reach an appointed term, that haply ye may understand.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

It is He Who has created you from dust then from a sperm-drop, then from a leech-like clot; then does he get you out (into the light) as a child: then lets you (grow and) reach your age of full strength; then lets you become old,- though of you there are some who die before;- and lets you reach a Term appointed; in order that ye may learn wisdom.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( هو الذي خلقكم من تراب ثم من نطفة ثم من علقة ثم يخرجكم طفلا ثم لتبلغوا أشدكم ثم لتكونوا شيوخا ) أي : هو الذي يقلبكم في هذه الأطوار كلها ، وحده لا شريك له ، وعن أمره وتدبيره وتقديره يكون ذلك كله ، ( ومنكم من يتوفى من قبل ) أي : من قبل أن يوجد ويخرج إلى هذا العالم ، بل تسقطه أمه سقطا ، ومنهم من يتوفى صغيرا ، وشابا ، وكهلا قبل الشيخوخة ، كقوله : ( لنبين لكم ونقر في الأرحام ما نشاء إلى أجل مسمى ) [ الحج : 5 ] وقال هاهنا : ( ولعلكم تعقلون ) قال ابن جريج ، تتذكرون البعث .
