Quran 41:25

Surah Fussilat, Verse 25

وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَآءَ فَزَيَّنُوا۟ لَهُم مَّا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَوْلُ فِىٓ أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ خَٰسِرِينَ

Word by word

۞ وَقَيَّضْنَا waqayyaḍnā And We have destined لَهُمْ lahum for them قُرَنَآءَ quranāa companions فَزَيَّنُوا۟ fazayyanū (who) made fair-seeming لَهُم lahum to them مَّا mā what بَيْنَ bayna (was) before them أَيْدِيهِمْ aydīhim (was) before them وَمَا wamā and what خَلْفَهُمْ khalfahum (was) behind them وَحَقَّ waḥaqqa and (is) justified عَلَيْهِمُ ʿalayhimu against them ٱلْقَوْلُ l-qawlu the Word فِىٓ fī among أُمَمٍۢ umamin nations قَدْ qad (that have) passed away خَلَتْ khalat (that have) passed away مِن min before them قَبْلِهِم qablihim before them مِّنَ mina of ٱلْجِنِّ l-jini the jinn وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ wal-insi and the men إِنَّهُمْ innahum Indeed, they كَانُوا۟ kānū were خَـٰسِرِينَ khāsirīna losers

Transliteration

Waqayyadna lahum quranaafazayyanoo lahum ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahumwahaqqa AAalayhimu alqawlu fee omamin qad khalat minqablihim mina aljinni wal-insi innahum kanoo khasireen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And We assigned them comrades (in the world), who made their present and their past fairseeming unto them. And the Word concerning nations of the jinn and humankind who passed away before them hath effect for them. Lo! they were ever losers.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And We have destined for them intimate companions (of like nature), who made alluring to them what was before them and behind them; and the sentence among the previous generations of Jinns and men, who have passed away, is proved against them; for they are utterly lost.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يذكر تعالى أنه هو الذي أضل المشركين ، وأن ذلك بمشيئته وكونه وقدرته ، وهو الحكيم في أفعاله ، بما قيض لهم من القرناء من شياطين الإنس والجن : ( فزينوا لهم ما بين أيديهم وما خلفهم ) أي : حسنوا لهم أعمالهم في الماضي ، وبالنسبة إلى المستقبل فلم يروا أنفسهم إلا محسنين ، كما قال تعالى : ( ومن يعش عن ذكر الرحمن نقيض له شيطانا فهو له قرين وإنهم ليصدونهم عن السبيل ويحسبون أنهم مهتدون ) [ الزخرف : 36 ، 37 ] .

وقوله تعالى : ( وحق عليهم القول ) أي : كلمة العذاب كما حق على أمم قد خلت من قبلهم ، ممن فعل كفعلهم ، من الجن والإنس ، ( إنهم كانوا خاسرين ) أي : استووا هم وإياهم في الخسار والدمار .
