Quran 41:40

Surah Fussilat, Verse 40

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا لَا يَخْفَوْنَ عَلَيْنَآ أَفَمَن يُلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلنَّارِ خَيْرٌ أَم مَّن يَأْتِىٓ ءَامِنًا يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ٱعْمَلُوا۟ مَا شِئْتُمْ إِنَّهُۥ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

Word by word

إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who يُلْحِدُونَ yul'ḥidūna distort فِىٓ fī [in] ءَايَـٰتِنَا āyātinā Our Verses لَا lā (are) not يَخْفَوْنَ yakhfawna hidden عَلَيْنَآ ۗ ʿalaynā from Us أَفَمَن afaman So, is (he) who يُلْقَىٰ yul'qā is cast فِى fī in ٱلنَّارِ l-nāri the Fire خَيْرٌ khayrun better أَم am or مَّن man (he) who يَأْتِىٓ yatī comes ءَامِنًۭا āminan secure يَوْمَ yawma (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ l-qiyāmati (of) Resurrection ٱعْمَلُوا۟ iʿ'malū Do مَا mā what شِئْتُمْ ۖ shi'tum you will إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, He بِمَا bimā of what تَعْمَلُونَ taʿmalūna you do بَصِيرٌ baṣīrun (is) All-Seer

Transliteration

Inna allatheena yulhidoona feeayatina la yakhfawna AAalaynaafaman yulqa fee annari khayrun ammanya/tee aminan yawma alqiyamati iAAmaloo mashi/tum innahu bima taAAmaloona baseer

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Lo! those who distort Our revelations are not hid from Us. Is he who is hurled into the Fire better, or he who cometh secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do what ye will. Lo! He is Seer of what ye do.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Those who pervert the Truth in Our Signs are not hidden from Us. Which is better?- he that is cast into the Fire, or he that comes safe through, on the Day of Judgment? Do what ye will: verily He seeth (clearly) all that ye do.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قوله : ( إن الذين يلحدون في آياتنا ) ، قال ابن عباس : الإلحاد : وضع الكلام على غير مواضعه .

وقال قتادة وغيره : هو الكفر والعناد .

وقوله : ( لا يخفون علينا ) أي : فيه تهديد شديد ، ووعيد أكيد ، أي : إنه تعالى عالم بمن يلحد في آياته وأسمائه وصفاته ، وسيجزيه على ذلك بالعقوبة والنكال ; ولهذا قال : ( أفمن يلقى في النار خير أم من يأتي آمنا يوم القيامة ) ؟ أي : أيستوي هذا وهذا ؟ لا يستويان .

ثم قال - عز وجل - تهديدا للكفرة : ( اعملوا ما شئتم ) قال مجاهد ، والضحاك ، وعطاء الخراساني : ( اعملوا ما شئتم ) : وعيد ، أي : من خير أو شر ، إنه عليم بكم وبصير بأعمالكم ; ولهذا قال : ( إنه بما تعملون بصير )
