Quran 42:12

Surah Ash-Shura, Verse 12

لَهُۥ مَقَالِيدُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

Word by word

لَهُۥ lahu To Him (belongs) مَقَالِيدُ maqālīdu (the) keys ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ wal-arḍi and the earth يَبْسُطُ yabsuṭu He extends ٱلرِّزْقَ l-riz'qa the provision لِمَن liman for whom يَشَآءُ yashāu He wills وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ wayaqdiru and restricts إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, He بِكُلِّ bikulli of every شَىْءٍ shayin thing عَلِيمٌۭ ʿalīmun (is) All-Knower

Transliteration

Lahu maqaleedu assamawatiwal-ardi yabsutu arrizqa liman yashaowayaqdiru innahu bikulli shay-in AAaleem

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

His are the keys of the heavens and the earth. He enlargeth providence for whom He will and straiteneth (it for whom He will). Lo! He is Knower of all things.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth: He enlarges and restricts. The Sustenance to whom He will: for He knows full well all things.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( له مقاليد السموات والأرض ) تقدم تفسيره في " سورة الزمر " ، وحاصل ذلك أنه المتصرف الحاكم فيهما ، ( يبسط الرزق لمن يشاء ويقدر ) أي : يوسع على من يشاء ، ويضيق على من يشاء ، وله الحكمة والعدل التام ، ( إنه بكل شيء عليم )
