Quran 42:38

Surah Ash-Shura, Verse 38

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ

Word by word

وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ is'tajābū respond لِرَبِّهِمْ lirabbihim to their Lord وَأَقَامُوا۟ wa-aqāmū and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ l-ṣalata prayer وَأَمْرُهُمْ wa-amruhum and their affairs شُورَىٰ shūrā (are conducted by) consultation بَيْنَهُمْ baynahum among them وَمِمَّا wamimmā and from what رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ razaqnāhum We have provided them يُنفِقُونَ yunfiqūna they spend

Transliteration

Wallatheena istajaboolirabbihim waaqamoo assalatawaamruhum shoora baynahum wamimma razaqnahumyunfiqoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And those who answer the call of their Lord and establish worship, and whose affairs are a matter of counsel, and who spend of what We have bestowed on them,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Those who hearken to their Lord, and establish regular Prayer; who (conduct) their affairs by mutual Consultation; who spend out of what We bestow on them for Sustenance;

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( والذين استجابوا لربهم ) أي : اتبعوا رسله وأطاعوا أمره ، واجتنبوا زجره ، ( وأقاموا الصلاة ) وهي أعظم العبادات لله عز وجل ، ( وأمرهم شورى بينهم ) أي : لا يبرمون أمرا حتى يتشاوروا فيه ، ليتساعدوا بآرائهم في مثل الحروب وما جرى مجراها ، كما قال تعالى : ( وشاورهم في الأمر فإذا عزمت فتوكل على الله ) [ آل عمران : 159 ] ولهذا كان عليه [ الصلاة ] والسلام ، يشاورهم في الحروب ونحوها ، ليطيب بذلك قلوبهم . وهكذا لما حضرت عمر بن الخطاب [ رضي الله عنه ] الوفاة حين طعن ، جعل الأمر بعده شورى في ستة نفر ، وهم : عثمان ، وعلي ، وطلحة ، والزبير ، وسعد ، وعبد الرحمن بن عوف ، رضي الله عنهم أجمعين ، فاجتمع رأي الصحابة كلهم على تقديم عثمان عليهم ، رضي الله عنهم ، ( ومما رزقناهم ينفقون ) وذلك بالإحسان إلى خلق الله ، الأقرب إليهم منهم فالأقرب .
