Quran 42:9

Surah Ash-Shura, Verse 9

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ فَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلْوَلِىُّ وَهُوَ يُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Word by word

أَمِ ami Or ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ittakhadhū have they taken مِن min besides Him دُونِهِۦٓ dūnihi besides Him أَوْلِيَآءَ ۖ awliyāa protectors فَٱللَّهُ fal-lahu But Allah هُوَ huwa He ٱلْوَلِىُّ l-waliyu (is) the Protector وَهُوَ wahuwa and He يُحْىِ yuḥ'yī gives life ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ l-mawtā (to) the dead وَهُوَ wahuwa And He عَلَىٰ ʿalā (is) on كُلِّ kulli every شَىْءٍۢ shayin thing قَدِيرٌۭ qadīrun All-Powerful

Transliteration

Ami ittakhathoo min doonihi awliyaafallahu huwa alwaliyyu wahuwa yuhyee almawtawahuwa AAala kulli shay-in qadeer

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Or have they chosen protecting friends besides Him? But Allah, He (alone) is the Protecting Friend. He quickeneth the dead, and He is Able to do all things.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

What! Have they taken (for worship) protectors besides Him? But it is Allah,- He is the Protector, and it is He Who gives life to the dead: It is He Who has power over all things,

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى منكرا على المشركين في اتخاذهم آلهة من دون الله ، ومخبرا أنه هو الولي الحق الذي لا تنبغي العبادة إلا له وحده ، فإنه القادر على إحياء الموتى وهو على كل شيء قدير .
