Quran 43:32

Surah Az-Zukhruf, Verse 32

أَهُمْ يَقْسِمُونَ رَحْمَتَ رَبِّكَ نَحْنُ قَسَمْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَرَفَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَٰتٍ لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا سُخْرِيًّا وَرَحْمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ

Word by word

أَهُمْ ahum Do they يَقْسِمُونَ yaqsimūna distribute رَحْمَتَ raḥmata (the) Mercy رَبِّكَ ۚ rabbika (of) your Lord نَحْنُ naḥnu We قَسَمْنَا qasamnā [We] distribute بَيْنَهُم baynahum among them مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ maʿīshatahum their livelihood فِى fī in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ l-ḥayati the life ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ l-dun'yā (of) the world وَرَفَعْنَا warafaʿnā and We raise بَعْضَهُمْ baʿḍahum some of them فَوْقَ fawqa above بَعْضٍۢ baʿḍin others دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ darajātin (in) degrees لِّيَتَّخِذَ liyattakhidha so that may take بَعْضُهُم baʿḍuhum some of them بَعْضًۭا baʿḍan others سُخْرِيًّۭا ۗ sukh'riyyan (for) service وَرَحْمَتُ waraḥmatu But (the) Mercy رَبِّكَ rabbika (of) your Lord خَيْرٌۭ khayrun (is) better مِّمَّا mimmā than what يَجْمَعُونَ yajmaʿūna they accumulate

Transliteration

Ahum yaqsimoona rahmata rabbika nahnuqasamna baynahum maAAeeshatahum fee alhayatiaddunya warafaAAna baAAdahum fawqabaAAdin darajatin liyattakhitha baAAduhumbaAAdan sukhriyyan warahmatu rabbika khayrun mimmayajmaAAoon

Translations

Is it they who apportion thy Lord's mercy? We have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them above others in rank that some of them may take labour from others; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than (the wealth) that they amass.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of thy Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of thy Lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى رادا عليهم في هذا الاعتراض : ( أهم يقسمون رحمة ربك ) ؟ أي : ليس الأمر مردودا إليهم ، بل إلى الله ، عز وجل ، والله أعلم حيث يجعل رسالاته ، فإنه لا ينزلها إلا على أزكى الخلق قلبا ونفسا ، وأشرفهم بيتا وأطهرهم أصلا .

ثم قال تعالى مبينا أنه قد فاوت بين خلقه فيما أعطاهم من الأموال والأرزاق والعقول والفهوم ، وغير ذلك من القوى الظاهرة والباطنة ، فقال : ( نحن قسمنا بينهم معيشتهم في الحياة الدنيا ورفعنا بعضهم فوق بعض درجات )

وقوله : ( ليتخذ بعضهم بعضا سخريا ) قيل : معناه ليسخر بعضهم بعضا في الأعمال ، لاحتياج هذا إلى هذا ، وهذا إلى هذا ، قاله السدي وغيره .

وقال قتادة والضحاك : ليملك بعضهم بعضا . وهو راجع إلى الأول .

ثم قال : ( ورحمة ربك خير مما يجمعون ) أي : رحمة الله بخلقه خير لهم مما بأيديهم من الأموال ومتاع الحياة الدنيا .
