Quran 43:51

Surah Az-Zukhruf, Verse 51

وَنَادَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى قَوْمِهِۦ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَلَيْسَ لِى مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَٰذِهِ ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِىٓ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

Word by word

وَنَادَىٰ wanādā And called out فِرْعَوْنُ fir'ʿawnu Firaun فِى fī among قَوْمِهِۦ qawmihi his people قَالَ qāla he said يَـٰقَوْمِ yāqawmi O my people أَلَيْسَ alaysa Is not لِى lī for me مُلْكُ mul'ku (the) kingdom مِصْرَ miṣ'ra (of) Egypt وَهَـٰذِهِ wahādhihi and these ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ l-anhāru [the] rivers تَجْرِى tajrī flowing مِن min underneath me تَحْتِىٓ ۖ taḥtī underneath me أَفَلَا afalā Then do not تُبْصِرُونَ tub'ṣirūna you see

Transliteration

Wanada firAAawnu fee qawmihi qalaya qawmi alaysa lee mulku misra wahathihial-anharu tajree min tahtee afala tubsiroon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, (witness) these streams flowing underneath my (palace)? What! see ye not then?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى مخبرا عن فرعون وتمرده وعتوه وكفره وعناده : أنه جمع قومه ، فنادى فيهم متبجحا مفتخرا بملك مصر وتصرفه فيها : ( أليس لي ملك مصر وهذه الأنهار تجري من تحتي ) ، قال قتادة قد كانت لهم جنان وأنهار ماء ، ( أفلا تبصرون ) ؟ أي : أفلا ترون ما أنا فيه من العظمة والملك ، يعني : وموسى وأتباعه فقراء ضعفاء . وهذا كقوله تعالى : ( فحشر فنادى . فقال أنا ربكم الأعلى . فأخذه الله نكال الآخرة والأولى ) [ النازعات : 23 - 25 ] .
