Quran 45:5

Surah Al-Jaathiya, Verse 5

وَٱخْتِلَٰفِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن رِّزْقٍ فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَتَصْرِيفِ ٱلرِّيَٰحِ ءَايَٰتٌ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ

Word by word

وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ wa-ikh'tilāfi And (in the) alternation ٱلَّيْلِ al-layli (of) the night وَٱلنَّهَارِ wal-nahāri and the day وَمَآ wamā and what أَنزَلَ anzala Allah sends down ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah sends down مِنَ mina from ٱلسَّمَآءِ l-samāi the sky مِن min of رِّزْقٍۢ riz'qin (the) provision فَأَحْيَا fa-aḥyā and gives life بِهِ bihi thereby ٱلْأَرْضَ l-arḍa (to) the earth بَعْدَ baʿda after مَوْتِهَا mawtihā its death وَتَصْرِيفِ wataṣrīfi and (in) directing ٱلرِّيَـٰحِ l-riyāḥi (the) winds ءَايَـٰتٌۭ āyātun (are) Signs لِّقَوْمٍۢ liqawmin for a people يَعْقِلُونَ yaʿqilūna who reason

Transliteration

Wakhtilafi allayli wannahariwama anzala Allahu mina assama-i minrizqin faahya bihi al-arda baAAda mawtihawatasreefi arriyahi ayatunliqawmin yaAAqiloon

Translations

And the difference of night and day and the provision that Allah sendeth down from the sky and thereby quickeneth the earth after her death, and the ordering of the winds, are portents for a people who have sense.

And in the alternation of Night and Day, and the fact that Allah sends down Sustenance from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the change of the winds,- are Signs for those that are wise.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

واختلاف الليل والنهار في تعاقبهما دائبين لا يفتران ، هذا بظلامه وهذا بضيائه ، وما أنزل الله تعالى من السحاب من المطر في وقت الحاجة إليه ، وسماه رزقا ; لأن به يحصل الرزق ، ( فأحيا به الأرض بعد موتها ) أي : بعد ما كانت هامدة لا نبات فيها ولا شيء .

وقوله : ( وتصريف الرياح ) أي : جنوبا وشآما ، ودبورا وصبا ، بحرية وبرية ، ليلية ونهارية . ومنها ما هو للمطر ، ومنها ما هو للقاح ، ومنها ما هو غذاء للأرواح ، ومنها ما هو عقيم [ لا ينتج ] .

وقال أولا ) لآيات للمؤمنين ) ، ثم ) يوقنون ) ثم ) يعقلون ) وهو ترق من حال شريف إلى ما هو أشرف منه وأعلى . وهذه الآيات شبيهة بآية " البقرة " وهي قوله : ( إن في خلق السموات والأرض واختلاف الليل والنهار والفلك التي تجري في البحر بما ينفع الناس وما أنزل الله من السماء من ماء فأحيا به الأرض بعد موتها وبث فيها من كل دابة وتصريف الرياح والسحاب المسخر بين السماء والأرض لآيات لقوم يعقلون ) [ البقرة : 164 ] . وقد أورد ابن أبي حاتم هاهنا عن وهب بن منبه أثرا طويلا غريبا في خلق الإنسان من الأخلاط الأربعة .
