Quran 46:22

Surah Al-Ahqaf, Verse 22

قَالُوٓا۟ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَأْفِكَنَا عَنْ ءَالِهَتِنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ

Word by word

قَالُوٓا۟ qālū They said أَجِئْتَنَا aji'tanā Have you come to us لِتَأْفِكَنَا litafikanā to turn us away عَنْ ʿan from ءَالِهَتِنَا ālihatinā our gods فَأْتِنَا fatinā Then bring us بِمَا bimā what تَعِدُنَآ taʿidunā you threaten us إِن in if كُنتَ kunta you are مِنَ mina of ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ l-ṣādiqīna the truthful

Transliteration

Qaloo aji/tana lita/fikanaAAan alihatina fa/tina bima taAAidunain kunta mina assadiqeen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

They said: Hast come to turn us away from our gods? Then bring upon us that wherewith thou threatenest us, if thou art of the truthful.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

They said: "Hast thou come in order to turn us aside from our gods? Then bring upon us the (calamity) with which thou dost threaten us, if thou art telling the truth?"

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

فأجابه قومه قائلين : ( أجئتنا لتأفكنا ) أي : لتصدنا ( عن آلهتنا فأتنا بما تعدنا إن كنت من الصادقين ) استعجلوا عذاب الله وعقوبته ، استبعادا منهم وقوعه ، كقوله : ( يستعجل بها الذين لا يؤمنون بها ) [ الشورى : 18 ] .
