Quran 46:5

Surah Al-Ahqaf, Verse 5

وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّن يَدْعُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَن لَّا يَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُۥٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ وَهُمْ عَن دُعَآئِهِمْ غَٰفِلُونَ

Word by word

وَمَنْ waman And who أَضَلُّ aḍallu (is) more astray مِمَّن mimman than (he) who يَدْعُوا۟ yadʿū calls مِن min besides دُونِ dūni besides ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah مَن man who لَّا lā will not respond يَسْتَجِيبُ yastajību will not respond لَهُۥٓ lahu to him إِلَىٰ ilā until يَوْمِ yawmi (the) Day ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) Resurrection وَهُمْ wahum and they عَن ʿan of دُعَآئِهِمْ duʿāihim their calls غَـٰفِلُونَ ghāfilūna (are) unaware

Transliteration

Waman adallu mimman yadAAoo min dooniAllahi man la yastajeebu lahu ila yawmialqiyamati wahum AAan duAAa-ihim ghafiloon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

And who is further astray than those who, instead of Allah, pray unto such as hear not their prayer until the Day of Resurrection, and are unconscious of their prayer,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

And who is more astray than one who invokes besides Allah, such as will not answer him to the Day of Judgment, and who (in fact) are unconscious of their call (to them)?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

وقوله : ( ومن أضل ممن يدعو من دون الله من لا يستجيب له إلى يوم القيامة وهم عن دعائهم غافلون ) أي : لا أضل ممن يدعو أصناما ، ويطلب منها ما لا تستطيعه إلى يوم القيامة ، وهي غافلة عما يقول ، لا تسمع ولا تبصر ولا تبطش ; لأنها جماد حجارة صم .
