Quran 48:4

Surah Al-Fath, Verse 4

هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلسَّكِينَةَ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ لِيَزْدَادُوٓا۟ إِيمَٰنًا مَّعَ إِيمَٰنِهِمْ وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

Word by word

هُوَ huwa He ٱلَّذِىٓ alladhī (is) the One Who أَنزَلَ anzala sent down ٱلسَّكِينَةَ l-sakīnata [the] tranquility فِى fī in(to) قُلُوبِ qulūbi (the) hearts ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ l-mu'minīna (of) the believers لِيَزْدَادُوٓا۟ liyazdādū that they may increase إِيمَـٰنًۭا īmānan (in) faith مَّعَ maʿa with إِيمَـٰنِهِمْ ۗ īmānihim their faith وَلِلَّهِ walillahi And for Allah جُنُودُ junūdu (are the) hosts ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ wal-arḍi and the earth وَكَانَ wakāna and Allah ٱللَّهُ l-lahu and Allah عَلِيمًا ʿalīman (is) All-Knower حَكِيمًۭا ḥakīman All-Wise

Transliteration

Huwa allathee anzala assakeenatafee quloobi almu/mineena liyazdadoo eemanan maAAaeemanihim walillahi junoodu assamawatiwal-ardi wakana Allahu AAaleeman hakeema

Translations

He it is Who sent down peace of reassurance into the hearts of the believers that they might add faith unto their faith. Allah's are the hosts of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is ever Knower, Wise -

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

It is He Who sent down tranquillity into the hearts of the Believers, that they may add faith to their faith;- for to Allah belong the Forces of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom;-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى : ( هو الذي أنزل السكينة ) أي : جعل الطمأنينة . قاله ابن عباس ، وعنه : الرحمة .

وقال قتادة : الوقار في قلوب المؤمنين . وهم الصحابة يوم الحديبية ، الذين استجابوا لله ولرسوله وانقادوا لحكم الله ورسوله ، فلما اطمأنت قلوبهم لذلك ، واستقرت ، زادهم إيمانا مع إيمانهم .

وقد استدل بها البخاري وغيره من الأئمة على تفاضل الإيمان في القلوب .

ثم ذكر تعالى أنه لو شاء لانتصر من الكافرين ، فقال : ( ولله جنود السماوات والأرض ) أي : ولو أرسل عليهم ملكا واحدا لأباد خضراءهم ، ولكنه تعالى شرع لعباده المؤمنين الجهاد والقتال ، لما له في ذلك من الحكمة البالغة والحجة القاطعة ، والبراهين الدامغة ; ولهذا قال : ( وكان الله عليما حكيما )
